Arlene Schnitzer
Visual Arts Prize 2021

The Arlene Schnitzer Visual Arts Prize is the most important award offered by the Portland State University School of Art + Design. I worked with 2 teams to make the visual system happen. At the time of creation, we had been living in a digital world and wanted to explicitly reference physical media.

Artists and designers of many disciplines can and do apply to the Arlene Schnitzer Visual Arts Prize. With that in mind, Matt Davidson, Gage Murrey, and myself devised a system that referenced physical media without favoring any particular medium. All 3 of us had great ideas for typography, and where to bring in something tactile. I combined those ideas into one system for the first touchpoint, which was social media posts advertising help sessions and artist submissions.

In Fall of 2021, I was on another team for the same project. This time, it was centered around preparing for the physical exhibition. Charles Matson did the type layout for the brochures, and I applied graphics and did some additional styling and edits.
